R. Scott Burling has a Master’s degree in English and wrote his thesis on the metaphorical depiction of imagination in the works of Edgar Allan Poe, with whom he shares a birthday (January 19). Since 1995 he has worked as an editor for a variety of publishers and has taught college writing as an adjunct instructor. Currently he is an Editing Manager in the Production Department of Taylor & Francis Books. His first short story publication, “If I Were a Gambling Man,” occurred in the summer of 2003 and can be found in the archive section at http://www.mystericale.com/. He mainly writes short stories but has more than one novel idea germinating. His writing interests include crime, mystery, horror, and mainstream with a touch of fantastical elements so as to push it beyond the realm of reality. Personal interests revolve around film, focusing on the classic era of the 1930s—1950s, especially film noir. He lives in Coral Springs, FL with his wife, Marlisa Santos, who is an Associate Professor of English, Director of her division, and a published film scholar.
